A little about me…
Welcome, I'm Gemma, a BACP Registered Integrative Counsellor offering counselling for adults online and in Tunbridge Wells.
Before becoming a counsellor, I worked in marketing and digital media, where I developed skills in listening, understanding people, and noticing subtle patterns in communication. These experiences help me bring curiosity, empathy, and creativity to therapy, supporting clients as they explore their thoughts, feelings, and life stories.
I was drawn to counselling because I value helping people feel heard, supported and understood. Being able to create a safe space where clients can explore their experiences and grow is what makes this work so meaningful for me.
I have experience supporting clients through anxiety, depression and feeling stuck, offering a calm, grounded space to explore what's going on — without judgement, and at your own pace.
I have a particular interest in helping people navigate chronic illness — adjusting to life after diagnosis, processing grief and loss, coping with a new identity, and rebuilding a sense of agency. This work begins with feeling safe, heard, and understood, and I bring a compassionate, informed approach tailored to these complex needs.
I also have personal experience of parenting a child with a chronic health condition, and understand the toll it can take on parents and carers. I support parents and carers to process the emotional impact, make sense of their experience, strengthen relationships, build coping strategies, and navigate the ongoing challenges these conditions bring.
Aside from my private practice, I have the privilege of working as a Counsellor at Mid Kent Mind, supporting clients through a range of issues including anxiety, depression, stress, domestic and emotional abuse, neurodiversity, relationship issues and trauma.
If any of this resonates with you, I'd love to hear from you.

My Approach
Being an Integrative Counsellor I incorporate the following approaches:
Person-Centered – focusing on your personal growth, authenticity, and potential.
Psychodynamic – exploring unconscious patterns and how past experiences may influence your thoughts, feelings, and relationships in the present.
Cognitive – looking at the links between thoughts, feelings, and behaviours, and how these patterns may affect your wellbeing.
Existential – reflecting on questions of meaning, choice, responsibility, and direction in life.
This means we can work flexibly together to explore your experiences, understand patterns, and support meaningful change.
Training and Qualifications
The right fit with your counsellor is what matters most. For those interested in my training and qualifications, here's a little more detail:
-
I'm a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy, working within their Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions to ensure safe, professional practice.
-
I trained within the NHS Kent and Medway Social Care Partnership Trust.
This advanced qualification trained me to draw on multiple therapeutic approaches — including person-centred, psychodynamic, and cognitive — so I can tailor sessions to what works best for you, rather than a one-size-fits-all model.
-
These foundational qualifications built my core counselling skills and understanding of therapeutic theory, forming the groundwork for my later diploma-level training.
-
Specialist training in delivering therapy remotely, ensuring the same quality of care, safety, and confidentiality whether we meet online, by phone, or in person.
-
Training in recognising the signs of suicidal ideation and responding safely and sensitively, so you can feel confident bringing even the hardest thoughts and feelings into the room.
-
My Master's in Marketing gave me a grounded understanding of communication, people, and organisations, which I bring into my therapeutic work today.
-
My background in Biology gave me a deep interest in how the body and mind are connected — understanding the biological side of stress, anxiety, and the nervous system informs how I support clients today, recognising that emotional wellbeing and physical wellbeing are closely linked.
